Banda (UP), May 14 (PTI) Four members of a family were killed and a teenage girl critically injured after their SUV rammed into a stationary truck on the Bundelkhand Expressway here on Thursday, police said.
Superintendent of Police Palash Bansal said the accident took place around 9 am near Hathaura village in Dehat Kotwali area when a speeding SUV rammed into a parked truck from behind.
Three people died on the spot, while another succumbed during treatment, he said. A 16-year-old girl, who sustained serious injuries, was referred to Kanpur for advanced treatment.
The deceased were identified as Ajit, 28, his mother Premshila, 55, grandmother Chandrawati, 80, and aunt Nisha Vishwakarma, 40, all residents of Ramgarh village in Azamgarh district. Ajit’s younger sister Riya, 16, was critically injured in the accident.
According to the police, Ajit, along with his family members, was returning from Azamgarh to Kabarai town of Mahoba district, where he ran a tyre shop.
The SP said, Ajit, who was driving the vehicle, may have dozed off, leading to the crash.
A case has been registered against the truck driver and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem, police said, adding that further investigation is underway. PTI COR CDN SHS SHS
