Hamirpur (UP), May 17 (PTI) Four people were killed and one person was seriously injured after a truck collided with a car on the National Highway-34 here on Sunday afternoon, police said.
They said the accident occurred near the Chhirka crossing on the Hamirpur-Mahoba road around 1.30 pm.
According to police, the victims were returning to Kanpur after visiting the Bageshwar Dham when their Wagon R was hit by the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.
The deceased were identified as Narendra Kumar (55), his wife Rekha (52), and their friends Raj Kapoor (57) and his wife Meena (52), all residents of Kanpur’s Nawabganj area, police said.
The car driver, Ayush Chauhan (25) of Lucknow, sustained serious injuries in the accident, they said.
Police said all car occupants suffered grievous injuries and were taken to the Community Health Centre in Maudaha, where doctors declared all of them dead.
Chauhan was referred to the Hamirpur district hospital after primary treatment. His condition is stated to be stable, they said.
