Thane, Jul 24 (PTI) Twenty-eight electricity meters were gutted in a fire that broke out on the ground floor of a seven-storey residential building in Thane city of Maharashtra on Thursday, officials said.

The incident occurred in building number 6 of Shubharambh Society at Manpada, they said, adding that nobody was injured in it.

“We received a call about the fire around 9.15 am. It was told that the blaze had erupted in the meter room on the ground floor. Firefighters arrived at the location with one fire engine along with the personnel of Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL),” Yasin Tadvi, chief of the disaster management cell of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), said.

“They brought the fire under control, but as per the preliminary assessment, all 28 electricity meters were destroyed,” he said, adding that a short circuit might have triggered the blaze.

No casualties or injuries have been reported. The fire has been completely extinguished and the situation is under control, Tadvi said.
