Pamidi (Andhra Pradesh), August 9 (PTI) A Bengaluru-bound private bus carrying 34 people, travelling from Hyderabad, fell off a bridge after colliding with a light commercial vehicle (LCV) here in Anantapur district on Sunday, leaving 23 passengers injured, police said.
The accident occurred around 4 am today under the jurisdiction of Pamidi Police Station, about nine km from Gooty. Of the 34 people on board, 11 escaped without injuries, while the remaining 23 sustained injuries ranging from minor to serious, they said.
“According to the preliminary investigation, the accident occurred on a one-way highway where separate bridges are provided for traffic travelling in opposite directions. Though the road is wide, it narrows by around two feet near the bridge. The LCV vehicle’s driver apparently failed to notice the narrowing and hit the protection wall on the left side. The driver then turned sharply to the right, following which the vehicle was hit by the bus travelling behind it,” the official told PTI.
Following the collision, both the LCV vehicle and the bus fell from the bridge.
An FIR has been registered.
Motor Vehicle Department officials also inspected the vehicles involved in the accident, the official added. PTI MS ROH
