Chandigarh, Sep 23 (PTI) Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) wing in Amritsar busted a cross-border narcotics smuggling module with the arrest of four individuals and recovery of 20 kg of heroin from them, said DGP Gaurav Yadav said on Wednesday.
Police arrested Rohan, a resident of Baba Jiwan Singh colony in Amritsar, Deepak Bakhshi, a resident of Partap Bazar in Amritsar, Rishabh Kumar, a resident of Golden Avenue in Amritsar and Ishaan Bedi, a resident of New Ranjit Pura in Amritsar.
Apart from seizing a big haul of heroin, police teams have also impounded their two motorcycles being used for transporting the consignment.
With this latest seizure, the CI Amritsar successfully recovered 74 kg heroin in just a week, having previously recovered 27 kg, 10 kg and 17 kg heroin consignments.
Investigation revealed that the module was being operated by a Dubai-based drug smuggler in coordination with his Punjab-based associates and foreign-based smugglers, said Yadav.
Sharing operational details, he said that CI Amritsar teams had received a specific input that operatives of Dubai-based smuggler has retrieved a huge consignment of heroin from the Indo- Pak border area of Village Rajatal, Tarn Taran sent via drones from across the border and they are coming in the area near Dana Mandi, Satlani Sahib Gurudwara in Amritsar to deliver the consignment to someone.
Acting swiftly, police team conducted raid and intercepted four individuals identified as Rohan, Deepak Bakshi, Rishabh and Ishaan Bedi from the area and recovered 20 kg heroin from their possession, he said.
Further investigation is underway to uncover the complete network and its backward and forward linkages.
A case has been registered under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act at Police Station State Special Operation Cell, Amritsar. PTI CHS NB
