New Delhi: Three men have been arrested in Delhi in the alleged gangrape of a minor girl in a car on the intervening night of 6 and 7 July.
The 16-year-old knew two of her alleged oppressors, the police said, adding all three were taxi drivers.
Deputy Commissioner, South West, Manoj C said the police received a call on the morning of 8 July where the caller detailed the assault. She got into a car – a Wagon R — with the three men around 8.30 pm at Vasant Vihar, he said.
The senior officer said all four went for a ride and the girl came back home at 7 am the next day. “She told her parents late that evening and was immediately taken to the hospital,” he said. The police said the girl was not severely injured.
A case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, POCSO, 376D (gangrape) among other sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered in the Vasant Vihar Police Station against the men. They are 23, 25 and 35 years old.
Police said the accused offered her a ‘joy ride’ and took her from Vasant Vihar to Mahipalpur and then to an isolated location in Gurgaon.
Officers said while the girl knew two of them, all three were from the same locality.
Manoj C added: “The minor girl knew both the younger men, who met her at the Vasant Vihar market and offered her a ride. The 35-year-old then drove into the market in a Wagon R. All four went to Mahipalpur and bought liquor. They drank and took her to an isolated place where two of them sexually assaulted her.”
According to the police, the minor in her statement, said the 25-year-old kissed her first after which the other two raped her. “Further investigation is on to clarify the facts,” the DCP said.
A senior police officer said, “The 25-year-old man, with whom the minor was friends, was at the hospital. She said this friend had tried to save her. However, initial investigation has revealed he didn’t take any action to help her.”
