14 drug consumers held in Telangana

Hyderabad, Jun 16 (PTI) Telangana’s anti-narcotics unit ‘EAGLE’ Force on Tuesday it has apprehended 14 people for alleged consumption of drugs after carrying out raids at different places in the state.

On credible information, the EAGLE Force (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) on June 15 conducted an operation in the limits of Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, Future City Police Commissionerates, Mahabubnagar and Nizamabad districts and apprehended 14 individuals on suspicion of consuming of drugs/ganja, an official release said.

Authorities said they received an information that two main peddlers along with their associates have taken a hostel on lease at Vagator Beach, Goa and procuring cocaine, MDMA pills and LSD in large quantities from Bengaluru and transporting the same from Goa to Hyderabad besides hash oil from Odisha.

Cocaine was sold in film industry while MDMA, LSD and hash oil was sold at LB Nagar here, they said.

The Technical Team of Eagle Force identified about 44 consumers who are in contact with the peddlers.

“As the main peddlers were away from Hyderabad, a raid was planned to nab the consumers with an aim of drug demand reduction. Altogether 15 teams were formed to nab the consumers. The raid resulted in nabbing 19 suspects out of whom, 14 tested positive for THC,” the EAGLE Force said.

The 14 consumers admitted to have purchased ganja and other drugs from main peddlers at Hyderabad and Goa respectively.

During the recent past, they have transferred a total of Rs 3.13 lakh for purchasing drugs, it said.

The consumers voluntarily admitted to drug abuse.

Information about their networks was collected, and their parents/guardians will be contacted to ensure they undergo de-addiction programmes with the hope that they have not developed severe dependency, the EAGLE Force said.

They were sent for medical examination, where they tested positive. They have been sent to de-addiction centres for treatment and rehabilitation, it said.
