New Delhi: The Union Cabinet met for one last time on Friday to recommend the dissolution of the 16th Lok Sabha and formation of a new government.

The meeting came a day after the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections in which the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance retained power with a massive mandate. After the Cabinet’s recommendation, President Ram Nath Kovind is now expected to dissolve the present Lok Sabha, the term of which is ending on 3 June. This is the last cabinet meeting of the Modi government’s first term.
