New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the ‘Panch Pran’ pledge for the country’s development Tuesday at Kartavya Path, as he led the event marking the culmination of the Amrit Kalash Yatra. He also offered soil into the Amrit Kalash, before applying some on his forehead as ’tilak’.

The yatra, a part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, a tribute to the country’s martyrs, was launched on 1 September this year. As part of the yatra, volunteers collected soil from panchayats and carried it to the block level. Likewise, soil was collected from smaller urban bodies and taken to municipalities. This soil was brought from various parts of the country to the national capital, where it was placed in the Amrit Kalash. The soil will be used to create the Amrit Vatika, dedicated to the country’s martyrs and freedom fighters.

Tuesday’s event also marked the end of the two-year-long Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, which was inaugurated on 12 March, 2021, to celebrate 75 years of India’s independence. Union ministers Amit Shah, G. Kishan Reddy, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Anurag Thakur, and Meenakshi Lekhi were also present at the event.

According to a Press Information Bureau communication, the five points in the pledge are — “the goal of a developed India, to remove the mentality of slavery, to be proud of our traditions, to dedicate whole life for unity and integrity, and, to awaken a sense of duty in the mind of every citizen”.

According to media reports, over 20,000 Amrit Kalash Yatris from 36 states and Union Territories were set to be presented during the two-day event beginning 30 October.

On the occasion, PM Modi also launched Mera Yuva Bharat (MY Bharat), an autonomous body, “designed to deepen their understanding of local issues and empower them to contribute to constructive solutions”. It will cater to those in the 15-29 age group.
