New Delhi: A snippet from a purported video interview with Bihar Education Minister Chandrashekhar has surfaced in which he can be heard saying that Islam is the only faith teaching love and peace.

BJP leader Kapil Mishra tweeted the viral video clip, claiming that the Bihar minister has an “anti-Hindu agenda”.

सिर्फ़ हिंदुओं को गाली देना एजेंडा

अब इसे संत रविदास जी याद नहीं आये

Other verified Twitter handles were also seen sharing the video clip. The snippet shared by the Twitter handle of Major Surendra Poonia has garnered over 67, 400 views and more than 1,000 retweets.

Others, such as Hindi newspaper Jansatta and BJP worker Priti Gandhi, also shared the clip.

Fact check

The viral snippet, however, has been trimmed from a full video of an interview that Chandrashekhar gave to The Republican Times in May, 2022.

The viral video also came days after Chandrashekhar’s comments on the Ramcharitmanas and the Manusmriti sparked controversy. Addressing students at the 15th convocation ceremony of the Nalanda Open University last week, the Bihar minister had described the two texts as books that “divide society“.

“Why was Manusmriti burnt, because many abuses were given in it against a large section. Why was Ramcharitmanas resisted and which part was resisted? Lower caste people were not allowed to access education and it is said in the Ramcharitmanas that lower caste people become poisonous by getting an education as a snake becomes after drinking milk,” Chandrashekhar had said.

His comments sparked a massive outrage among BJP leaders, with some citing that the minister was doing politics of “Muslim appeasement“.
