The viral video, shared by influencer pages on Facebook, was viewed by more than 1.7 million users.
New Delhi: A video showing the process of milk adulteration in India, citing World Health Organisation (WHO) statistics, has gone viral on social media.
The video was posted by a Facebook user named Rohit Borana Saturday.
The video claims that WHO statistics show India produces 14 crore litres of milk, but sells around 50 crore litres. It further claims that according to the WHO, Indians were drinking poison and 87% of them may get cancer as well.

The video was shared by more than 82,000 Facebook users and viewed by more than 1.7 million users. Apart from individual accounts, it was also shared by influencer pages — Feku Express and the verified account of Bengaluru-based fashion designer Sujit Meher.
A Facebook search of the text posted by the user showed many users shared the same video from their personal account.
However, the claim that the video demonstrates the milk adulteration process is completely false.
The video actually shows a simple technique to produce white phenyl at home. The liquid that the man in the video can be seen using to mix with water is actually a phenyl concentrate.
SM Hoaxslayer posted a video about mixing the concentrate with water. There are many ‘do it yourself’ videos on YouTube on how to make white phenyl at home.
There is, however, some truth to the claims about difference between production and consumption figures of milk in India.

In September, an Animal Welfare Board of India report said 68.4% of the milk consumed in India is adulterated and violates the FSSAI standards. The WHO too earlier warned that 87% Indians may suffer from fatal diseases like cancer by 2025 if this practice doesn’t stop.
