New Delhi: Social media users were left confused Wednesday after a Twitter account claiming to belong to Sara Pilot, wife of former Rajasthan deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot, sent out a tweet saying the Tonk MLA should join BJP.

The tweet sent by the account @SaraSachinpilot has been retweeted over 1,500 times and has more than 9,000 likes. It has also been circulated on WhatsApp.

The account has also sent out a tweet saying there are many fake accounts on Sara’s name but this was the original one and it will be verified soon.

Along with the above account, another called @SarahSachin, also claiming to be the wife of the Congress leader, has been tweeting about the political drama between Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin.

While the account Sara Sachin Pilot (@SaraSachinpilot) has more than 17,000 followers, the other account Sarah Sachin Pilot (@SarahSachin) has 30,000.

Both accounts have also been retweeting posts by fake accounts of leaders Sachin, Mayawati and Subramanian Swamy.

Sara Sachin Pilot’s account recently retweeted a tweet by one fake account of Sachin that had replicated his original tweet saying “the truth can be troubled yet not defeated”.

The tweet by the leader’s fake account added another sentence to the original saying, “My fight with you still continues Gehlot ji.”

Fact Check

ThePrint’s fake news checker has found that both the accounts claiming to belong to Sara Pilot are fake and most of their followers consisted of fake handles.

One of the accounts also has an incorrect spelling. While the account @SaraSachinpilot was formed in June, the @SarahSachin one was created in March 2019.

News agency IANS had earlier mistakenly assumed the Sarah Sachin Pilot account to belong to Sara and published an article of the latter attacking Gehlot in her tweets.

ThePrint’s fake news checker also found that J&K leader Omar Abdullah and Sara’a brother had tagged neither of the accounts while tweeting about his sister in the past.
