New Delhi: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan’s nephew Hassaan Niazi has been continuously registering ‘protest’ on micro-blogging site Twitter after the Narendra Modi government abrogated Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir earlier this month. But in his zeal, Niazi has posted some old videos in a seeming propaganda push.
On 24 August, the Twitter handle of Khan’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, posted a video of “…unarmed men, women, children being attacked by Indian Army”. Niazi shared the video with his own caption: “This is the Fight for Self Determination #Hitler regime has gone crazy #India #kashmir #freedomForKashmir.”
The PTI post has been retweeted over 3,500 times, and garnered over 5,700 ‘likes’.

Almost a week before that, Naizi had posted another video of a “Muslim man” being tied to a pole by the neck and hands while being forced to chant “Jai shri ram”.
Niazi, a barrister and human rights lawyer and activist with over 51,000 followers, shared the video and wrote, “Dear @Twitter @TwitterSupport this is what is happening with Muslims in India. in Jammu Kashmir there is no communication and reports are that worst kind of genocide is taking place. Meanwhile u are deleting the accounts of ppl who are highlighting this #Shameful #ModiHitler (sic)”.
As of Monday, the post had been retweeted over 4,000 times and got 3,800 likes.

Old footage
However, both the posts Hassaan Niazi has shared are old and unrelated.
The post shared by PTI and Niazi on 24 August contains old footage from two videos.
One part of the footage was taken after clashes broke out on the outskirts of Srinagar over the killing of four militants in Anantnag, as seen in a YouTube video shared by a channel called ‘Firdous Qadri photography’ last year.
The other part of the video is from a 2017 incident of clashes in Srinagar, according to Associated Press.
The Twitter post Niazi shared before that contains footage of an incident from 2015.
Ever since Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was revoked on 5 August, Pakistan PM Imran Khan and PTI have relied heavily on social media to label India’s move in “violation” of the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
