New Delhi: BJP’s former IT cell head of Himachal Pradesh Ravi Rana has shared a fake website link on Twitter to claim that Rs 5 lakh health cover is being offered to people under Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s flagship Ayushman Bharat scheme.
“For those between 13 and 70, Ayushman Bharat is now giving insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh for 10 crore people. The last day for submitting application is 7 June 2019”, he tweeted on 1 June.

The fake link — http://aayushman-bharat-yojana.babawishu.com/ — that Rana shared with his tweet opens to a page with the message: “Future home of something quite cool.”
Even the official website of Ayushman Bharat, also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), warns people against falling for fake schemes in the name of PMJAY.
“We request the public not to pay heed to fraudulent calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages regarding the enrollment/premium payments for the scheme,” the website says.

Scheme has no age limit as claimed by Rana
Rana’s post also wrongly stated that Rs 5 lakh health cover was being offered to people between the age of 13 years and 70 years. In reality, Ayushman Bharat scheme doesn’t require its beneficiaries to have any age limit.
Announced last year by Modi in his Independence Day speech, Ayushman Bharat is aimed at benefitting the bottom 40 per cent of Indians. The scheme was formally launched on 23 September last year and became operational two days later. The scheme provides an annual health cover of Rs 5 lakh per family to more than 10.74 crore poor families — about 50 crore people.
The scheme covers secondary and tertiary care hospitalisation, which includes critical procedures, including cardiac surgeries, organ transplants, and fixing stents and implants.
Fake websites
This is, however, not the first time that a fake website link of government schemes has been shared. The Times of India reported Monday that an IIT graduate and his cousin were arrested for creating and sharing a fake government website, claiming that two crore free laptops were to be distributed on the occasion of Modi’s swearing-in.
Fake domains collect user data and sell it at exorbitant price, besides generating ad revenue from the website with the number of clicks on the link.
