New Delhi: The number of daily cases of Covid-19 in India has increased more than three times over the last one month. India reported more than 53,000 new case of Covid-19 today. On 25 February, a total of 16,738 new cases of Covid were reported in a single day.
Daily cases
In the last 24 hours, as many as 53,476 people across the country tested positive for Covid-19. This is the highest number of daily cases since October last year. Compared to just a month ago, the number of daily cases have tripled. Maharashtra continues to report the highest number of new cases every day.
Daily vaccinations
With 23,03,305 doses given in the last 24 hours, a total of 5,31,45,709 vaccine doses have been administered in India so far.
As many as 82,99,171 people have received both doses of the vaccine in India so far.
Active cases
Active cases in India increased to 3,95,192 Thursday — the highest since 6 December. Active cases now account for over three per cent of the total cases in the country.
Number of deaths
India’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 1,60,692 Thursday, with 251 deaths reported across the country in the last 24 hours.
Mortality rate
The overall fatality rate for India has dropped to 1.36. Punjab’s case fatality reduced to 2.93 — which is still the highest in the country. Maharashtra’s CFR reduced to 2.09 while that of Sikkim is 2.17.
The rapid drop in CFR can be attributed to the increase in the percentage of active cases across India.
Daily tests
In the last 24 hours, 10,65,021 Covid-19 tests were conducted across 1,226 government laboratories and 1,199 private laboratories. Over 23.7 crore tests have been carried out in the country since the beginning of the pandemic.
Positivity rate
With an increase in the number of new cases, the test positivity increased to 5 per in the last 24 hours. While the test positivity is still below 10 per cent, it is now steadily increasing throughout the country.
The overall positivity, calculated since the beginning of the pandemic, is 4.9 per cent.
Recovered cases
As many as 26,490 patients have been discharged from Covid-19 hospitals across India in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of recoveries since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,12,31,650.
Total cases
As many as 1,17,87,534 people in India have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. The largest number of cases so far have been reported from Maharashtra, followed by Kerala and Karnataka.
States with highest active cases
Maharashtra has 2,48,604 active cases of Covid-19, with 31,855 new cases reported since yesterday.
A total of 25,64,881 people from the state have been infected with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Of these, 53,684 people have died, with 95 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
In Kerala, active Covid-19 cases increased to 24,578. Since yesterday, the state reported 2,456 new cases of Covid-19.
This takes the total number of cases detected from the state to 11,09,908 since the beginning of the pandemic. With 10 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 4,527.
In Punjab, active cases increased to 20,522, with 2,613 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
A total of 2,20,276 people in the state have reported to be Covid positive since the beginning of the pandemic. With 39 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the state’s Covid-19 death toll increased to 6,474.
Karnataka reported 2,298 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, as a result of which active cases in the state increased to 16,905. A total of 9,75,955 cases have been reported from the state since the beginning of the pandemic.
With 12 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, the toll increased to 12,461.
Chhattisgarh reported 2,106 new covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. The state currently has 11,934 active cases. This brings the total number of cases detected from the state to 3,29,694.
The state reported 29 deaths in the last 24 hours, which takes the Covid-19 death toll to 4,011.
