New Delhi: The registration for the next phase of Covid-19 vaccination will start at 9 am Monday on the government’s Co-Win portal. Those who will be 60 years old or above as of 1 January 2022 will be eligible to register, and so will people with comorbidities who have attained the age of 45 by that date.

While government hospitals will offer the vaccine for free, private facilities will charge no more than Rs 250/dose. This translates into a total charge of Rs 500 since the two vaccines currently being administered in India — Covaxin and Covishield — require people to take two shots four weeks apart.

Vaccination will be available at all of the more than 10,000 private hospitals empanelled under PM Jan Arogya Yojana, the tertiary care arm of the Modi government’s Ayushman Bharat scheme, and the over 600 hospitals under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS). Private hospitals empanelled under state schemes can function as Covid vaccination centres as well.

The list of hospitals can be accessed on the website of the Union Health and Family Welfare, where one will also find a user guide for citizen registration and appointment for vaccination.

All these details were shared by the Union Health Ministry in an official statement after an orientation workshop — organised by the ministry and the National Health Authority Sunday.

The government had Saturday released a list of 20 comorbidities that qualify one for vaccination under this phase. These include heart failure with hospital admission in the past one year, post-cardiac transplant, moderate or severe valvular heart disease, end-stage kidney disease, severe respiratory diseases with hospitalisations in the past two years, lymphoma/leukaemia/myeloma, and sickle cell disease.

There will be no appointments for vaccination after 3pm.

1 mobile number, 4 registrations

According to the health ministry statement, beneficiaries ought to sign up on Co-Win with their mobile number, and up to four beneficiaries can be registered on each mobile number.

“However, except for the mobile number, the beneficiaries will have nothing else in common,” the health ministry said, citing the requirement for each beneficiary to submit a photo ID.

The photo IDs that are acceptable for registration include Aadhaar card, voter ID, passport, driving licence, PAN card, NPR smart card, and pension documents with a photograph.

Like in the previous phase of vaccination, the Union government will procure all the vaccines and supply them free of cost to states and union territories. The states and UTs in then will disburse them to government and private Covid-19 vaccination centres. The Rs 250 price ceiling for private facilities reportedly includes Rs 150 towards the cost of vaccine, and Rs 100 for the hospital.
