New Delhi: Pakistanis and Bollywood songs are inseparable. This was proved once again when Pakistan Muslim League(N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz’s son Junaid Safdar sang a ’70s Mohammad Rafi song at his wedding. Now, the video has gone viral and Safdar has been trending on Pakistani Twitter ever since. People can’t stop talking about his singing skills, and gushing and crushing on him.
The movie was Hum Kisise Kum Naheen (1977), and the song was Kya Hua Tera Wada. Not exactly a wedding song, as Mehr Tarar tweeted. But Pakistanis can’t get over ’70s Bollywood, it appears.
Safdar married Ayesha Saif Khan in London on 23 August.
It’s safe to say that his vocals and choice of song won hearts.
Strings frontman Bilal Maqsood even gave the newlywed “full marks” for his singing skills, but appeared disappointed with the flower decor and wondered if it was from his tax money.
There was quite a buzz about it on social media.

Most social media users seemed to appreciate former Pakistan PM Nawaz Sharif’s grandson’s “mesmerising voice”, tweeting that they’ll perhaps “not get over it anytime soon”.

While there were Twitter users like Nosheen who wondered if they were “crushing over Junaid Safdar”, others focused on Safdar’s “heart of gold”, beyond the “good looks”.

Not all fans, though
The appreciation for Junaid Safdar and his singing skills wasn’t limited to Twitter. His videos are doing the rounds on Instagram as well, with Pakistan-based lifestyle journalist Maliha Rehman calling him a “handsome groom” whose knowledge of Mohammed Rafi songs seems to be a huge bonus.
In the comments sections, some said that his wife is “lucky” to have him. Several celebrities — Saboor Aly, Sana Javed, Zoya Nasir and Iffat Omar — also reacted to the video with a “waah”. VJ-turned-actor Anoushey Ashraf said, “This is sweet. It is making me like him. Stoppp!”
Meanwhile, some others called it “rude” that even after “paying” for the wedding, they weren’t invited.

Amid the praises, there were also some who seemed unhappy.
Twitter user Maham Malik said, “I don’t understand what Junaid Safdar has done that he is at the top of the trend?? Strange Pakistani people do not know why such people are sitting on their heads.”
“How long before Paki girls prove innocence of sharif family just bcs junaid safdar sings well,” another user said.
