New Delhi: Kangana Ranaut has now reached Pakistan. A viral video of mimicry artist Ukasha Gul Ashraf, mimicking the actor on former cricketer Ramiz Raja’s talk show has captured the attention of both Indians and Pakistanis. While Pakistanis are applauding her for finally getting due recognition for her talent, Indians are discussing her spot-on impressions of Ranaut and drawing comparisons between the two.

But this is not Gul’s first impression of Ranaut.

Her portrayal of the actor has become a recurring highlight on Showtime with Ramiz Raja, much to the amusement of hosts Raja and Hina Niazi. Mostly dressed in sarees, Gul is seen mimicking Ranaut while also singing in the show. It is only after one of her acts went viral that she was noticed across the border.

“She is more Kangana than Kangana herself!” one user wrote on Instagram.

New sensation on internet

In her most recent video, dressed in a black saree and pink blouse, she expertly mimicked Ranaut’s distinctive curly hairstyle and mannerisms, making the audience laugh at her clever one-liners. One such joke poked fun at relationships, where Gul copied Ranaut’s character Rani from Queen (2013):

“I have seen two kinds of gents in my life—married gents and detergents. Both are equally good at cleaning clothes.”

This newfound fame comes on the heels of Ranaut herself stating in an interview that she is “probably the most imitated actor in the world of mimicry.”

In previous segments, Gul jokingly lamented about not receiving designer clothes despite being from India. She did this act before designer Munib Nawaz, who was one of the guests in the show.

She also quips at Raja, in the same episode, saying, “you are the one who brought me from India. When you aren’t here, I feel secure.” She then quickly corrects herself to say “I meant I feel insecure”. The segment is titled Kangana Nay Laga Di Aag.

With almost a 100k followers on Instagram, Lahore’s Gul is an internet sensation in Pakistan. In one of her Instagram posts, she is seen pretending to be a guest at the Anant Ambani wedding with the caption, “Haters will say it is fake”. Gul is also a singer and was part of the 2023 Fawad Khan-Mahira Khan starrer Legend of Maula Jutt
