Conservative Party will vote to finally select two candidates

Ten candidates have been confirmed for the Tory leadership race. One of these leaders would go on to become the next prime minister of the UK.

The contenders are — Jeremy Hunt, Dominic Raab, Matt Hancock, Boris Johnson, Michael Gove, Mark Harper, Sajid Javid, Andrea Leadsom, Esther McVey and Rory Stewart.

In the coming weeks, a series of votes would be conducted in the Conservative Party to finally select two candidates.

The two MPs will then face the wider Tory membership to decide on the next leader of Conservative Party, and the country.

Zardari’s arrest comes in midst of Pakistan’s deteriorating economy

Pakistan’s corruption watchdog, National Accountability Bureau (NAB), arrested former President Asif Ali Zardari Monday in connection with a money laundering case.

This comes as Prime Minister Imran Khan’s government stepped up anti-corruption drive.

According to Pakistani news reports, the NAB arrested Zardari for his alleged fraudulent bank accounts and money laundering. Zardari’s sister, Faryal Talpur, is also being investigated by the NAB.

Previously, NAB had facilitated the arrest of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on corruption charges.

Zardari’s arrest comes in the midst of a deteriorating Pakistani economy and a currency in free fall. The new economic survey released by the Pakistani Finance Ministry shows that economic growth has been revised down to 3.3 per cent in June, which is below the 6.2 per cent target.

With imports rapidly increasing, the country’s currency has been speedily sliding. It recently breached the 150 mark, whereby one US dollar was being traded for 151 Pakistani rupees.

Pilot dies on spot after chopper crash

On a rainy and foggy New York Monday morning, a helicopter crashed into the roof of a skyscraper, next to the Times Square, killing the pilot on spot. The roof of the building caught fire, which was soon tamed.

New York Mayor Bill De Blasio said at a press conference: “The helicopter is pretty obliterated at this point. It was obviously a very hard hit.”
