New Delhi: Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal had a promising military career ahead of him and had become one of the most recognisable faces of the Indian Army after serving as President Droupadi Murmu’s Aide-de-Camp. He was a runaway hit on Instagram reels and was called the “national crush” for a brief time. But family commitments have now prompted him to take premature retirement after 12 years of service.
“This is the hardest decision of my life. I have to take care of some family commitments. I never thought that I would have to take this call. It was painful. It took me a lot of time to finally announce my decision,” Sambyal told ThePrint.
Rishabh Sambyal spent four months thinking about this decision. Now that he has made it, he has already started working on his future plans.
“I am building a model, a part of it is to inspire young minds. I will work for the growth of the country and we will grow with that. I am working on it,” said Sambyal.
It’s been only a few days and Sambyal already misses his job. “I miss the smell of my sweat; my uniform and my daily activities that I used to do.”
Sambyal became hugely popular after featuring in reels showing him as the dapper, handsome aide to President Murmu. Some endearing moments made him wildly popular, such as offering his handkerchief to Murmu when she got emotional, holding an umbrella for her, warmly interacting with her granddaughter and exchanging a smile with the President during one of her speeches.
Sambyal is 30 years old and unmarried. He remembers his time as an ADC to the President with pride.
“It was a surprise for me when I got that posting. I didn’t plan anything, everything came to me naturally,” said Sambyal.
