New Delhi: Lufthansa Airlines has come up with a new Travel Etiquette Collection of merchandise.

Tote bags proclaiming  “Text your mom after landing”, and “Middle seat gets the armrests” are written on the sleeves of a classic white pullover.

It is a limited edition collection in collaboration with the advertising agency Serviceplan. It features sweatshirts, T-shirts, hats and accessories. Each with a short message about how to behave while flying.

Rules to fly now on clothes

At the airport or on a plane, certain behaviours are instant icks.

Whether it is who gets to deboard the plane first or the fight for the armrest.

Sometimes this results in fights as well.

But Lufthansa chooses to send out these messages subtly through its new collection.

In a suave photoshoot, with a classic Instagram flashlight theme, Lufthansa gave a fun spin to unwritten rules that should be followed on board.

A white hoodie with “Boarding by Group is a different experience” sends a message out– do not rush as soon as the announcement is made. Give space, and be patient.

The collection came out on 31 July, with Lufthansa publishing an elaborate article on what each message means.

Headlined “Good Manners on Board: Understanding Works Wonders,” Lufthansa says, “The unwritten laws of flying are now printed on sweaters, T-shirts, and caps. Politeness, you could say, has become wearable. And better still: it doesn’t preach. It simply comes along for the ride.”

The airline also sends out the “most diplomatic message” in the whole collection- Recline Responsibly.

The text on a white cap is for people to take a look at the back seat.

“A friendly ‘Is this okay for you?’”, the airline suggests.

“A potential conflict turns into a small gesture of consideration. Reclining responsibly doesn’t mean not reclining at all. It just means knowing, for a moment, who’s sitting behind you.”

Nine Years, Made Possible by Readers

In 2017, Shekhar Gupta started ThePrint with a simple belief: Indian readers want journalism that asks why and what next, not just what. And that enough of them would be willing to pay for good journalism.

Nine years on, that belief has held.

And, in these nine years, we’ve stayed true to our mission. We’ve been asking the follow-up questions, going beyond the headlines and explaining what’s actually happening. We’ve travelled across the country to bring you in-depth, visually-compelling stories from the ground.

It’s been nine years of readers choosing to make this possible. If you’d like to be one of them:
