New Delhi: A South Indian restaurant in Dubai has gone viral on social media for offering steep discounts that depend not on what diners order, but on who they show up with.

Anna’s by Jimmy Dixs serves “authentic South Indian flavours by day” and a multicuisine menu by night. Located at the Barcelo Hotel in Al Jaddaf, Dubai, the restaurant has rolled out a weekday promotion where the size of the discount is tied to the guest’s company. Dining with family gets patrons 50 per cent off, while arriving with one’s wife increases it to 55 per cent. Bringing a girlfriend pushes the discount to 60 per cent, and bringing more than two girlfriends raises it to 65 per cent.

But the upper tiers of the promotion have grabbed the most attention online. According to the restaurant, diners who arrive with both their wife and girlfriend can avail 70 per cent off. The maximum discount, 75 per cent, is offered if someone turns up with their wife and more than two girlfriends.

The offer, valid from Sunday to Thursday between 6 pm and 1:30 am, also includes complimentary welcome drinks, snacks, music and hookah.

‘Reflection of modern lifestyles’

Sucheta Sharma, founder and managing director of Boho Group, which runs the restaurant, said in a statement to Khaleej Times that the concept was not intended as a gimmick but as a reflection of modern lifestyles and from observing changing social patterns in the city.

“People here juggle work, families and complicated personal lives. With everything being a bit uncertain lately, going out has also become more selective,” she said. “We thought, why not create something that makes it easier to step out and enjoy an evening, whether that’s with family or… other company.”

The campaign has since drawn reactions ranging from amusement to disbelief. Whether anyone actually manages to claim the full 75 per cent offer remains unclear. The restaurant, however, appears prepared for the possibility.  “If someone manages it, we’ll be ready,” Sharma said.
