Guwahati, Sept 10 (PTI) Famed English virtual band Gorillaz will perform in Guwahati on January 31 next year as part of their first India tour, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Thursday.
Besides Guwahati, the band will also perform in Bengaluru and Mumbai on January 23 and 27, respectively.
“Delighted to announce that the legendary Gorillaz will perform in Guwahati on January 31, 2027, as part of their first-ever India tour,” Sarma said in a social media post.
“Guwahati is proud to be among the host cities for this landmark tour. Looking forward to welcoming the band and fans from across the country to Assam,” he added.
Gorillaz was formed in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett.
The band primarily consists of four fictional members: 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, Noodle and Russel Hobbs.
American hard rock band ‘Guns N’ Roses’ is also scheduled to perform in Guwahati on November 17, while the city hosted American rapper Post Malone in December last year.
The state government approved a new policy for promoting ‘concert tourism’ in May 2025, with Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Jorhat as hubs.
It also joined hands with Bigtree Entertainment, which operates ticketing platform BookMyShow, to organise various concerts in the state. PTI DG SOM
