New Delhi: Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar drew fewer than 900 viewers on its opening day in Japan, according to Japanese box-office tracker Mimorin.

The Aditya Dhar action film recorded 449 viewers across 57 locations by 2 pm on Friday. It was playing across almost 80 locations by the end of the day, but the total turnout remained below 900. The film did not feature in Mimorin’s top 25 box-office rankings on its opening day.

Dhurandhar released in Japan on 10 July, more than seven months after its original theatrical release in India on 5 December 2025. The makers announced the Japan release in April with a poster carrying the film’s title in Japanese and the message: “It’s time for Japan to experience the Dhurandhar energy.”

The film earned Rs 1,307.35 crore worldwide before its Japan release, according to box-office tracker Sacnilk. This included an India gross of Rs 1,007.85 crore and Rs 299.50 crore from overseas markets. The spy-action film stars Singh alongside Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal and Sara Arjun.

The Japanese market

Japan has received greater attention as a market for Indian films since SS Rajamouli’s RRR had a long theatrical run in the country. The film earned $14.5 million in Japan, according to Box Office Mojo, making it the highest grossing Indian film in Japan.

Ahead of Dhurandhar’s release, Singh also shared a video message inviting Japanese audiences to watch the film in cinemas.

“A warm hello to everyone in Japan. Dhurandhar will be releasing in Japan, bringing with it an immersive cinematic experience packed with drama, intensity, scale, emotion and storytelling at its thrilling best,” he said.

“I warmly invite you to come and experience the biggest Indian movie of all time on the big screen. Lots and lots of love, and I hope to see you at the movies.”
