New Delhi: Aamir Khan is back in his deadpan-comic avatar—this time taking a swing at Emmy-winning comic Vir Das. In a new announcement video for Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, the superstar mock-thrashes the stand-up comic and actor for attempting an “item song”, scolding him for straying from comedy and “trying to become an item girl”.

“From which angle do you look like an item girl?” asks Khan, visibly upset. By item girl, Khan meant a performer who dances on high-energy songs.

“From kya banaya to kya banaya. Get ready for a wild ride of comedy, action, romance, and some spy stuff as well. Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, in theatres only from January 16, 2026,” read the caption on Instagram.

Action, romance & cast

Khan looks visibly unimpressed throughout the promo video. “The whole film in which you are getting beaten up, that is action?”

He then asks what about romance. When Das responds that there is a proper romantic track in the movie, Khan shoots back, “The one where you get slapped when you meet her, that is romance? You like domination!”

Das reminds Khan that even he made the flop Laal Singh Chaddha, and Khan immediately starts beating up the comic.

But the moment the audience walks in after watching the film, Khan switches tone instantly, nodding along in full agreement.

The video also gives a glimpse of the cast of the film, which includes Mona Singh, Mithila Palkar, and Imran Khan, who has been away from movies for more than a decade.

The film, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is directed by Vir Das and Kavi Shastri. This would mark Das’ directorial debut. He has previously acted in movies like Badmaash Company (2010) and Go Goa Gone (2013). His last role was as the unscrupulous news anchor Satyajit Sen in Amazon Prime Video’s web series Call Me Bae(2024), headlined by Ananya Panday.

Aamir Khan and Vir Das are collaborating on a movie together after 14 years. Das last acted in Delhi Belly (2011), which was also produced by Aamir Khan Productions. The film became a cult classic.
