New Delhi: In the last decade, actor Yash has done only four films, three of which have crossed the ₹100-crore mark, establishing him as one of the biggest names in pan-Indian cinema. Despite the criticism surrounding Toxic, which was released on Wednesday, the film has reportedly collected nearly ₹140 crore worldwide on its opening day.
Early reactions to Yash’s Toxic have been critical, with some calling the film a “fairy tale that turns into a complete nightmare for everyone.” Social media has been flooded with criticism of the film’s storyline, with several users calling it a “disaster”. Others have criticised the filmmakers’ choices, with some describing the second half as a masterclass in how to ruin a film.
The film is directed by Geetu Mohandas, with Yash in a dual role, alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Huma Qureshi, Tara Sutaria and Rukmini Vasanth. Set in post-Independence Goa, the film follows a gangster as he navigates loyalty, morality and redemption in a world driven by violence and jealousy. The film is reportedly made on a budget of ₹500 crore.
From Jambada Hudugi to KGF
Yash started his career in 2007 with Jambada Hudugi. The romantic drama was a box-office success and reportedly ran in theatres for nearly 100 days. In a career spanning nearly two decades, he has worked in 37 films.
He became a pan-Indian star with KGF: Chapter 1 in 2018, in which he played Rocky, a gangster who goes undercover as a slave to assassinate the owner of a notorious gold mine known as the Kolar Gold Fields. The film was directed by Prashanth Neel. It was made on a budget of ₹80 crore and collected nearly ₹238 crore worldwide.
Four years later, he returned with KGF: Chapter 2. The sequel followed Rocky as he expanded his empire, while the government began to view him as a threat to law and order.
The film became the biggest commercial success of his career at the time, joining the rare ₹1,000-crore club. Made on a budget of ₹100 crore, it collected nearly ₹1,235 crore worldwide.

What’s next for Yash?
His next release is Ramayana, which is scheduled to release worldwide around Diwali. Yash plays Ravana in the two-part epic, with Ramayana: Part 2 set to release next year.
The film is reportedly being made on a ₹4,000-crore budget, with Sony Pictures serving as the global distributor.
