New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay Joseph retired from films after assuming the CM’s office, but his 26-year-old son Jason Sanjay is making his directorial debut with Sigma. The film is about a rogue treasure hunter, played by Sundeep Kishan, who is breaking every rule for his biggest loot.
Alongside Kishan, the film stars Faria Abdullah, Raju Sundaram and Yog Japee. The CBFC recently gave the film a U/A certificate. The trailer of the film was released on 11 September, which establishes Kishan’s character as a radio jockey who lands at the centre of a Rs 500 crore racket run by an underworld.
Recently, in an interview with Galatta Plus, Jason said he tries to stay away from the constant chatter around his father as much as possible because, given the position his father is in right now, he tries to make sure that he safeguards the reputation of the family.
“I want to make sure I’m not doing anything in an inconsiderate manner which may offend anyone. Because my father is the CM of the state,” he said.

Like father, like son
SS Rajamouli launched the film’s trailer on 18 September.
Sanjay revealed that he had not shared the script before starting the film. His grandfather, veteran filmmaker SA Chandrasekhar, also did not see the script. He shared the outline of the film but did not reveal the details of the film’s storyline.
“I didn’t go into details because I also want to have them see the film from a fresh point of view. That’s my goal,” he said.
Before clashing the release date with any other star at the box office, his film clashed with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan on July 31, which was the original release date of Sigma. It is now set to release on 2 October.
Jason also shared that Vijay’s films have influenced him while growing up. One of the films he watched the most was Pokkiri, released in 2007, which starred Vijay and Asin. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film revolves around Tamizh, played by Vijay, a hitman in Chennai’s underworld and how he joins the mafia even when the members do not like him, and he falls in love with aerobics teacher Shruthi, who wants him to leave the crime life.
“More than the action, I loved the costumes he wore. I would wear similar ones and take pictures. Even the hairstyle too… the funk,” he said.
