New Delhi: For millions of Indian railway passengers, the wait for a confirmed ticket is an everyday frustration. But what happens when someone finds a way to beat the system and turns it into a business? Amazon MX Player’s new series Waiting Hai explores this through a mix of crime and comedy.
The seven-episode series will premiere on September 16 and stars Divyendu Sharma and Bhuvan Arora in the lead roles. Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Sameer Vidwans, the show is set in Patna and revolves around a computer expert who develops software that can help users secure Tatkal railway tickets.
Sharma plays Sugam Mishra, an RPF officer posted in Patna. His routine takes a turn when he comes across a network manipulating the Tatkal ticket-booking process. Bhuvan Arora plays Afroz Hamza, a computer expert who develops software capable of booking Tatkal tickets successfully.
What begins as a hack eventually turns into a business. Afroz and his uncle, known as Mama (Vijay Maurya), use the software to secure confirmed tickets and sell them to passengers. Sugam notices the unusual booking pattern and begins investigating the operation. The story follows the investigation as the ticketing network grows and the people behind it face rivalry and betrayal.
The trailer presents Waiting Hai as a crime-comedy—or “scam dramedy”— rather than a thriller. Alongside the ticketing racket, the story follows Sugam’s personal and professional struggles as he attempts to establish himself as an RPF officer.
The supporting cast includes Kumud Mishra as Pramukh Tripathi, Harshita Gaur as Princy and Vijay Maurya as Mama. Sunita Rajwar plays Shanti Devi, Dayashankar Pandey plays ASI Lokesh Kumar and Yashpal Sharma plays Bhoora Bhaiya. Naved Aslam is also part of the ensemble.
The series is written by Shreyas Jain, Prateek Payodhi and Ashish Thomas, and produced by Ajay Rai, Sana Warsi and Jyoti Deshpande. Waiting Hai will stream on Prime Video and MX Player.
