New Delhi: Fashion designer Jishad Shamsudeen has claimed that three distinct looks he designed for actor Mohanlal were removed entirely from Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer 2. He also said that a scene featuring the Malayalam actor in the film’s trailer was trimmed.
“Three of Mohanlal sir’s distinct looks were cut entirely, and even that trailer scene was trimmed out,” Shamsudeen said in a statement posted on Instagram on Thursday, the film’s release date.
‘Trimming Mohanlal’s scenes was unnecessary’
Shamsudeen currently works as Mohanlal’s personal designer and stylist. He previously designed the denim jacket Salman Khan wore in the song “Heeriye” from Race 3.
Shamsudeen said that although Mohanlal’s screen time in the trailer was reduced to two seconds, he remained confident about the work he had done.
“From my experience in cinema, trimming scenes involving a superstar like Mohanlal sir is simply unnecessary,” he said.
The designer also shared photographs of the looks he had created for Mohanlal that did not make it into the film.
He further said that he would not be part of a future instalment if the franchise continued.
“Seeing our superstar reduced like this, if there is a sequel, I will not be part of it. I am truly sorry to everyone who trusted me,” he said.
Clarifying his position, Shamsudeen said his statement was driven by his support for Mohanlal and his fans.
“I don’t stand for favours, profits, crore clubs, or stardom,” he said.

Mohanlal reprises his role as Mathew
Mohanlal reprises his role as Mathew, the flamboyant underworld kingpin, in the sequel to the Rajinikanth-starrer. In the franchise, Mathew is a close ally of Rajinikanth’s character, Muthuvel Pandian, also known as Tiger.
Alongside Mohanlal, Jailer 2 features Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Jackie Shroff and S J Suryah.
The film also features a cameo by Hrithik Roshan, who plays Roddy, a character with a history dating back two decades with Tiger Muthuvel.
Jailer 2 was released in theatres on 15 October.
