The Fast & Furious franchise is set to be adapted into a television series. Peacock has officially greenlit a scripted series based on the long-running Universal franchise, with the show targeting a 2028 premiere.
The series was first announced in May, when actor Vin Diesel revealed during NBC Universal’s upfront presentation that a Fast & Furious television project was in development. While Diesel initially spoke about four shows from the franchise, NBCUniversal later clarified that only one Fast & Furious series was in development, with other projects at Universal Television in various stages.
Diesel, who plays Dominic Toretto, will be the executive producer of the series alongside Sam Vincent, Neal H Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Morgan.
Speaking about the move to television, Diesel said the idea came after years of demands from fans for more stories from the Fast & Furious universe
“For the last decade, we have realized that the fans have wanted more. They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space that Fallon has mastered. And I had to wait till it was right,” he said at the upfront in May.

A mega franchise
While the eventual series will expand the world established by the films, its story and characters are being kept under wraps for now. It is also unclear whether the television show will feature any of the franchise’s established characters.
The television expansion comes as the franchise approaches the end of its theatrical run. The Fast & Furious movie series began in 2001, starring Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and Michelle Rodriguez. Over the following two decades, the street-racing story evolved into a global action franchise spanning 11 films and earning more than $7 billion at the worldwide box office.
The upcoming series is currently being eyed for a 2028 release. The same year, Universal is scheduled to release Fast Forever, the 12th film in the franchise, on March 17.
This will not be the first time the franchise has ventured into television. Netflix previously released the animated series Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, which ran for six seasons between 2019 and 2021.
