New Delhi: After posting a steady stream of hair-flip videos, driving clips and behind-the-scenes glimpses from a movie on Instagram, mostly set to songs from the 1980s and 1990s, veteran actor Deepak Tijori is returning to Gujarati cinema after nearly three decades with Get Set Go, directed by Arnav Kumar.

The film’s trailer, released on Tuesday, shows Tijori as a Robin Hood-like figure. He and his team of ‘Chiranjeevis’ fight corruption by carrying out bicycle-borne heists in various disguises. They then distribute the spoils among those in need, including through bank transfers.

The trailer features the line, “Not the hero you expected, the hero you needed,” as Tijori and his gang leap from bridges onto trucks to pull off heists.

Bhaumik Sampat, Jhinal Belani and Raunaq Kamdar also star in the bicycle-heist film.

Tijori has also announced that the film’s promotional budget will be redirected towards relief efforts for families affected by the devastating floods in Gujarat. On Instagram, he said the money would be used to assist affected families, help farmers recover from the damage and support educational initiatives in the state. He also posted a video showing him and other members of the ‘Chiranjeevi’ team distributing relief material in flood-affected areas.

“In these difficult times for Gujarat, Team Get Set Go has taken an important decision. The entire budget that was allocated for the film’s ground promotions will now be dedicated to supporting those affected by the devastating floods in Gujarat… because for us, humanity is bigger than any film,” he posted.

The film is set to release on August 7.

Tijori was a familiar face in Hindi cinema through the 1990s, appearing in films such as Aashiqui, Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar, Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa and Anjaam. Since then, he has appeared in films only sporadically. One of his latest ventures was the 2024 film Tipppsy, which he wrote, directed and acted in.

Before Get Set Go, Tijori appeared in the Gujarati film Hu Tu Ane Ramtudi, released in 1998 and directed by Subhash J Shah. The film dealt with marital turmoil in Tijori’s character’s life after the arrival of a dancer turns his marriage toxic and chaotic. It also starred Pinky Parikh and Kalpana Dewan.
