New Delhi: After the box-office success of Hanuman Ansh, a film based on the life of spiritual guru Neem Karoli Baba, SonyLIV has announced a new web series about his life.
The OTT platform shared the teaser for the series across social media on 1 October.
The promo opens with an old man walking along a river as a voiceover says, “The person whose stories left the nation mesmerised. Now, the country will watch other magical tales from his life.”
The man is seen wrapped in a blanket, typically associated with Neem Karoli Baba. He raises his hands toward the sky, and an image of the Hindu deity Hanuman appears.
The series will air on SonyTV and will also be available for streaming on SonyLIV.
On Instagram, fans welcomed the announcement, as several users flooded the comments with “Jai Shree Ram” slogans.
One person urged the makers to portray Neem Karoli Baba’s story accurately and with authenticity.
“Don’t show lies and false stories. Please present the truth,” read one comment.
However, not everyone was convinced about the need for the series.
“Uff… this was not needed. What was made recently was made with pure heart and faith,” one user wrote.
Another commented, “Ab poori India Neem Karoli Baba par movie banayegi kyunki ek hit ho gayi, isliye… (Now the whole country will make a film on Neem Karoli Baba because one has become a hit).”
The announcement comes weeks after the makers of Hanuman Ansh shared plans for a trilogy. Since then, there has been no concrete update on its sequel. Hanuman Ansh is also yet to receive an OTT release date as it continues to run in theatres for eight consecutive weeks.
The film, which released on 7 August, initially struggled to draw audiences to cinemas. It was released across 300 screens, but its screen count was later reduced to around 30. However, its fortunes changed in the third week as the film began gaining momentum at the box office.
Now, Hanuman Ansh has completed 56 days in theatres and has earned Rs 314.9 crore in India and Rs 410.75 crore worldwide.
Despite competition from multiple star-studded releases such as Batwara 1947, Awarapan 2 and Mirzapur: The Movie, the film retained its spot at the box office.
