New Delhi: The promotional tour of The Devil Wears Prada 2 has become a major talking point, and much of the credit goes to Meryl Streep. The actor has been serving a series of jaw-dropping fashion moments. But her impact extended beyond fashion. Streep infused the press tour with signature sass, delivering several “Miranda Priestly-coded” statements.
Here are five iconic moments from The Devil Wears Prada 2 promotional tour:
Red Givenchy moment
For the New York promotions, Streep paid tribute to her iconic character Miranda Priestly at the Manhattan red carpet by choosing a striking red cape Givenchy dress designed by Sarah Burton — a look that would feel right at home on the film’s runway.
Yves Saint Laurent moment
During the The Devil Wears Prada 2 press tour in Shanghai, while dressed in Saint Laurent, Streep said, “I am incarcerated in Yves Saint Laurent”, leaving the crowd in a meltdown. At the same event, she also spoke about the power shoulders in her royal blue YSL fit. “I have shoulders for long days, in case nobody doubts my power,” Streep said.
‘Come with very high expectations’
Film sequels often risk falling short, as they struggle to match the cultural impact of the original. Streep, however, addressed this perception head-on, encouraging audiences to expect more.
“I hope the fans come to this movie with very high expectations, because we are going to exceed them,” she said.
Miranda to Meryl
A 10-second video of Streep went viral on social media, and fans couldn’t help but call her “ultra cool.” The video captured her interacting with some fans and suddenly a bunch of girls shouting at the other end caught Streep’s attention. And, she reacted with the same enthusiasm and energy.
That blue cerulean knit
Even in a simple “blue sweater”, Streep had the internet in a chokehold. The cerulean sweater famously belonged to Andrea “Andy” Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, making it a subtle nod.
