Puducherry: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Chief Minister and All India N.R. Congress (AINRC) president N. Rangasamy, is set to retain power in the Union territory as it has won or leading on 18 seats in the 30-member assembly.
According to the results and trends available on the Election Commission website till 8 pm, in the 30-memner assembly, NDA constituent All India N.R Congress had won 10 seats and was leading in two, while its ally BJP had won 4 seats. Its other allies—AIADMK and LJK—had one seat each.
The Congress-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) has six seats, with the Congress getting one seat and the DMK five. Three seats have been won by Independents, while the TVK has won two seats and the Neyam Makkal Kazhagam one.
This victory marks a second consecutive term for the NDA, defying the Union Territory’s trend of alternating power.
The Union Territory had exceptionally high voter turnout of nearly 90 percent. The NDA benefits from a perceived edge in governance delivery, welfare schemes, and stability, while the opposition campaign focused on anti-incumbency and alliances with national players.
Within the NDA, Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s AINRC draws its strength from his personal popularity, governance record, and strong local appeal.
The BJP, which contested 10 seats, won four. Smaller allies like AIADMK and Latchiya Jananayaga Katchi (LJK) contested two seats each.
The Congress led SPA’s performance has been hampered by internal conflicts and friction over seat-sharing. The DMK’s presence provided some advantage, but the alliance struggled to counter the incumbency advantage of the Rangasamy government.
The TVK’s entry also split votes in several constituencies, potentially hurting the SPA more in key urban pockets while carving out its own niche.
