Ramgarh, May 21 (PTI) The Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (PVUNL) is set to make Jharkhand self-sufficient in terms of power production with surplus output of around 600 MW, a top company official said.

PVUNL is a joint venture between the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Ltd.

The JV’s unit 1 in Patratu block of Ramgarh district, with an established capacity of 800 MW, has been operational since November 5 last year.

The second unit of same capacity is ready for commercial operation, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PVUNL, Ashok Kumar Sehgal, told PTI.

“Following the commissioning of unit 2, Jharkhand would get 85 per cent power from the two units (1600 MW), and the state would have over 600 MW surplus power,” Sehgal said.

Jharkhand would be able to sell surplus power to other states, he said, adding that unit 3 of another 800-MW capacity is likely to be commissioned in the next six months.

“This will be sufficient to supply power to the state and allow the government to sell surplus power to other states,” he said. PTI CORR BS RBT
