New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) The government has appointed Nitin Gupta, former Chairman of CBDT, as the Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA).

Besides, Smita Jhingran, P Daniel and Sushil Kumar Jaiswal have been appointed as Full Time Members of the regulator, according to a source.

The post of the NFRA Chairperson has been lying vacant after the three-year tenure of Ajay Bhushan Prasad Pandey ended on March 31. In April, the government gave the Competition Commission of India (CCI) chief Ravneet Kaur the additional charge as the NFRA Chairperson.

An Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Nitin Gupta is the former Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Thursday approved the appointment of Gupta as Chairperson and the three persons as Full Time Members of NFRA, as per the source.

Jhingran, also an IRS officer, had earlier served as a Full Time Member of the regulator, while Daniel is the former Secretary of the Central Vigilance Commission. Jaiswal is the former Director General of Audit (Central Receipt).

The appointments are for a period of three years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years or until further orders.
