Digha, Sep 24 (PTI) Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd has entered into an agreement with a West Bengal government agency to operate a hotel in the International Convention Centre in the state’s popular sea resort Digha, officials said.

The agreement was signed between the hospitality major and the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) in the presence of Digha Sankarpur Development Authority (DSDA) officials, they said.

A KMDA official told reporters here that the agreement was “signed a week back in Kolkata” in the presence of West Bengal Municipal Affairs Minister Firhad Hakim and senior officials of the development agencies.

“As per the arrangements, the well-known hospitality chain will run and manage the hotel which also consists of a convention centre and an exhibition hall,” the official said.

Earlier this month, the Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd (ASPHL) issued a statement, mentioning that it was delighted to announce a long-term agreement with the KMDA.

“The 65-room hotel consists of a 1,000 seater convention centre with banquet halls and exhibition centre spread over 5.5 acres of land,” the statement said.

“We are delighted to partner with KMDA and the government of West Bengal” Apeejay Surrendra Park Hotels Ltd Managing Director Vijay Dewan was quoted as saying in the statement.

The hotel will be crucial for tourism development and employment generation in the area.

The group said the facilities will be ready for meetings from January 2023.

A DSDA official also said the move was necessitated as part of an objective to turn Digha into an international tourist destination. PTI SUS BSM BDC BDC
