New Delhi: Bangladesh Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud will visit India on Wednesday, 7 February, at the invitation of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
Mahmud’s visit is significant as it is the first foreign visit of the newly sworn-in Bangladesh government after Sheikh Hasina registered a historic victory and won the consecutive fourth term as the Prime Minister.
The visit will strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.During his 7-9 day visit to India, Mahmud will also hold talks with Jaishankar and review the progress of bilateral relations in a wide range of areas.
The two leaders will also discuss regional and sub-regional issues of common interest. Earlier this month, Jaishankar met Mahmud on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Kampala, Uganda, where the two discussed strengthening the ties between India and Bangladesh.The visit reflects the high importance and priority that both countries attach to their bilateral relationship.
It added that the visit will also strengthen the cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, economy, and climate change. The Awami League government, which secured 223 seats in the parliament, has named a 36-member cabinet.The government will work for the development of the country and improve the lives of the people.
