ASEAN, India strengthen strategic partnership amidst regional tensions

The officials reviewed the cooperation between the two sides across the three ASEAN Community pillars and discussed the ways to further augment their relations.

Senior Officials of ASEAN and India met in New Delhi to discuss the strengthening of their Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).

The meeting was co-chaired by the leaders of ASEAN and India, an ASEAN org press release stated.

The officials reviewed the cooperation between the two sides across the three ASEAN Community pillars and discussed the ways to further augment their relations.

They also discussed the implementation of the ASEAN-India Plan of Action (POA) 2021-2025 and the Joint Statement on Cooperation on the ASEAN Outlook on the Indian-Pacific for Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the Region.

The senior officials expressed their interest in promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity. They also condemned the ongoing conflicts in Myanmar and the South China Sea and called for an immediate ceasefire.
They also pledged to exert efforts to materialise the implementation of the joint statement on cooperation on the ASEAN-India Joint Statement on Cooperation on the ASEAN Outlook on the India-Pacific for Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the Region and the ASEAN-India Joint Statement on Maritime Cooperation. The meeting ended with the joint courtesy call of the ministers of external affairs of India and ASEAN. In this meeting, India emphasized the importance of ASEAN to India and the positive impact of the ongoing summit of ASEAN and East Asia on India’s diplomatic calendar.
Both sides also discussed the need to review and update the ASEAN-India Trade in Good Agreement (AITIGA). The ministers also called for the swift implementation of the new joint statement on Cooperation on the ASEAN Outlook on the India-Pacific for Peace, Stability and Prosperity in the Region.
