Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi to take over as Chief of the Naval Staff

He has been the chief of personnel and the flag officer commanding-in-chief, Western Naval Command, in the rank of vice admiral.

New Delhi: Vice Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi will assume the role of Chief of the Naval Staff on April 30, 2024, after the current Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, retires on the same day, according to the government, a PIB press release stated.

A communication and electronic warfare specialist with over three decades of experience, Tripathi has commanded a number of ships, including the Vinash, Kirch, and Trishul. He has held various operational and staff positions, including Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command, and Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala.

In the rank of Vice Admiral, Tripathi has served as the Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Policy and Plans) and the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet. He has been the chief of personnel and the flag officer commanding-in-chief, Western Naval Command, in the rank of vice admiral.

He is also a graduate of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington, the Naval Higher Command Course, Karanja, and the Naval Command College at the United States Naval War College, USA. He has commanded ships named ‘Vinash, Kirch and Trishul’ and has held a number of other important positions.

His appointment as the next Chief of the Naval Staff is also expected to strengthen the Indian Navy’s position in both the national and international arena.
