Kim Jong-un promises complete denuclearisation in exchange of security guarantees by Trump.

President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a document declaring that Kim’s government would work toward the “complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula” and committing to a “lasting and stable peace.”

In exchange, Trump committed to provide unspecified “security guarantees” to Kim.

The two adversaries also agreed to establish new relations “in accordance with the desire of the peoples of the two countries for peace and prosperity” and said they would work on recovering “POW/MIA remains.”

The document said nothing about how the two countries would reach the goals, and “complete denuclearization” wasn’t defined. It declares that their summit in Singapore “was an epochal event of great significance in overcoming decades of tensions and hostilities between the two countries.”

Neither Trump nor Kim elaborated on the agreement’s contents as they signed the document, concluding their four-hour meeting on Tuesday in Singapore. Yet a photo of the papers, held up by Trump, revealed some of the language, including a provision for North Korea to take steps to eliminate its nuclear arsenal. – Bloomberg
