New Delhi: Indian private defence manufacturing firm SMPP Limited has secured an order for additional 10,000 bulletproof jackets for paramilitary forces. This is over and above the company’s existing order for 40,000 units, taking the total number of bulletproof jackets to be delivered by the firm to 50,000 units.

The order caters to the requirements of the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

According to the company, 28,000 jackets have already been delivered, and the remaining units are scheduled for the next financial year as per the contractual timeline.

In 2018, SMPP received an order of 186,138 bullet-resistant jackets from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), which was delivered before the scheduled date, the company said in a statement.

Similarly, under the emergency procurement procedure, the company also provided 200,000 ballistic helmets, including specialised models designed for Sikh soldiers.

In the past, SMPP has also supplied large quantities of bulletproof jackets to paramilitary forces, including CRPF, BSF, and Assam Rifles, supporting broader security needs.

Ashish Kansal, CEO of SMPP Limited, said in a statement, “The execution of this large order reflects our manufacturing strength, robust quality systems, and our deep commitment to safeguarding the lives of those who serve the nation.”

SMPP has benefited from the MoD’s Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), which bans imports of specified defence items to promote domestic manufacturing under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

According to the company, SMPP’s bulletproof jackets are designed and manufactured in India to meet stringent ballistic and operational requirements, ensuring enhanced survivability and operational readiness for personnel deployed in diverse and high-risk environments.
