New Delhi: An Army major has built a First Person View (FPV) drone based 400 gm payload system that can be used to take on enemy targets with precision.
Such drones have been widely used in Ukraine, where the Ukrainian Army has used them in large numbers to take on Russian bunkers, vehicles and smaller systems.
Sources in the defence establishment said that the system has been developed by Major Cephas Chetan in conjunction with a team of the Chandigarh-based Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory.
The Indian Army’s 2 Para, the sources said, has already inducted five of them and a larger order for 95 is being followed up. Each system cost about Rs 1.4 lakh, but the cost will come down with larger orders.
The drone has a dual safety system which prevents accidental detonation during transport, handling, and flight, they added. The trigger is pilot controlled and payload activation is done only via radio controller, eliminating premature detonation risks.
The drone operator is able to get real-time payload status for precision strikes through the FPV Goggles.
