I think this is truly unfair. All the praises showered for Sonu Sood are not coming from BJP alone, and not that he mobilized any PR activities to publicise his efforts. While all other constructive contributions are praiseworthy, Sonu Sood evoked a close association by the masses. These mostly included those who benefitted or their relatives. As such you will agree one time effort and a consistent effort day in day out gains a whole new meaning. See Barkha Dutt’s piece where she interviewed both Sonu and VIkas Khanna, now that’s meaningful journalism that strikes a chord.

The reason bjp is supporting Sonu sood is because after this crisis is over, sood will probably join bjp and the party will take the credit of his philanthropy.
