Abbas Siddiqui and his Indian Secular Front has pitched Muslim, Brahmin, Dalit and tribal candidates for the Bengal assembly election. But can they win?
UAE’s strong trade & commercial ties to India and Pakistan, and the fact that it is home to millions of expatriate workers makes it uniquely qualified to mediate between the two countries.
In July 2007, Islamabad shook to the sound of rockets and bombs, and carnage followed. The call was given by the same maulana who is slashing sofas now.
Uniformity of rules should be the playbook across sectors. Different rules, whether for telecom players, retail entities or online businesses, would invariably trigger the level-playing questions.
On 4 November 2025, NCLAT bench, comprising Chairperson Justice Ashok Bhushan and Member Arun Baroka, noted that WhatsApp and Meta are distinct legal entities.
This world is being restructured and redrawn by one man, and what’s his power? It’s not his formidable military. It’s trade. With China, it turned on him.
Alliance of Congress – Left – ISF took shape very late and to expect it to achieve big foot prints is day dreaming. Secularism has lost its relevance in indian polity and biggest example of this is emanating from bengal where secular credentials were taught & enforced for past 44 years to bhadra bengali hindu manush (muslims can never be secular so appeasement was described as secularism to muslims to keep them glued around secularism) who now have decided to come out of trap weaved so skillfully around appeasement particularly after anti CAA demonstration where no visible action was taken despite loss of government properties by muslims. Mamata has accorded privileged citizens status to muslims, a tag connected to bhadra bengali manush and this infuriated them and forced them to look for political space outside TMC, BJP being only viable option got huge support due to this.
Strong support base of BJP has instilled fear in muslims and they’re not in a position to consider their support to ISF or AIMIM unless & until candidate is in winning position, hence, to articulate that left will get support of muslim votes is unfounded & unsubstantiated at least in current context.
I fail to see the dilemma which the writer imagines. In India secularism is same as minority (read Muslim) communalism. Left and congress have alwys supported minority communalism in the name of secularism. So, where is the conflict?
Well secular leaders coming up with that same old formula. Before partition the Muslim League in Bengal used to form coalitions with dalits to win seats. When time for the British to leave came, they wanted an islamic country and dalits were discarded. Dalits paid the biggest price for islamic politics then. Now the upper caste secular leftist crowd and islamic crowd are trying to use the dalits again in Bengal. Hopefully better sense prevails among them.
The Left however is in danger of losing its hindu voters because of alliance with a pirzada who on live media said — and this is ignored by the author — he hoped that the corona virus would kill 50 crore hindu indians.
Again, to the Left secular means Islam, so what is the problem here mentioned in title?
