Why should Kashmir be any different? Because India is the greatest, most compassionate, most selfless nation on earth, at least since 2014 when Modi’s incredible government started making India a model for the entire world. Absolutely no wrong can be done in this amazing place, which is inhabited by the world’s oldest and greatest civilization. What Indians do in Kashmir is our business and Kashmir is our birthright. We are beyond reproach! Any foreigner who dares comment is a bloody colonizer who wants to defame this great nation, and any Indian who dares comment is an anti-National. Why should we have esteem for the world’s most respected medical journal? We have ultimate respect for ourselves and that is what matters. This is how our world-class democracy works! Put up or shut up! Jai Hind!
There is such a thing as sticking to one’s area of expertise and not trying to fob opinion in an area where one holds only a tertiary understanding, off as fact. Neither The Lancet nor the BMJ have focused upon the nature of injuries, possible illnesses / hygiene related health issues etc as a result of the situation in Kashmir, all of which would have been areas in which the journals would have had justifiable reason to express their opinion. Instead, by choosing to proffer political opinion by assuming authority in a field in which the authors and editors have none, the result seems as ridiculous as a Murdoch rag using semi-pornographic images to draw readers into reading extreme political opinion. With The Lancet, the result is unlikely to result in either the numbers that Murdoch rags achieve in subscription and ad-spend despite attracting justifiable ridicule from intelligent readership, nor is The Lancet likely to acquire a reputation for learned political commentary overnight. And, an exercise in fake academic pomposity does not become suddenly authoritative just because a body of Gora Sahibs put it out. Several Indian and foreign political journals and news media have discussed the Kashmir situation in detail, and with subject matter expertise that the entire body of The Lancet and the BMJ’s respective editorial boards would not be able to gain if they devoted their entire time over the next few decades to studying Kashmir. Please stop the Brown Sahibbery in playing willing drum-beaters to an exercise of British buffoonery in The Lancet’s case.
Economists talk about economy; Medical professionals talk about medicine and healthcare. If medical professionals talk about economy and economists talk about medicine, nothing more disaster can be expected.

Well said!
How a sustained enviroment of conflict and violence affects health is very much a medical matter.
