Husain Haqqani, director for South and Central Asia at the Hudson Institute in Washington D.C., was Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States from 2008-11. His books include ‘Pakistan Between Mosque and Military,’ ‘India vs Pakistan: Why Can’t we be Friends’ and ‘Reimagining Pakistan.’
He is leader and he succeeded after all. He should enjoy the victory. he fight for power was not fruitless. he emerged .He Got it what he expected from himself.
You live in luxury, Pakistan blessed you with honors to represent the country and your pastime and fulltime is to malign Pakistan, my dear things are changing slowly and steadily in Pakistan and you cant handle it …. be positive and objective and not anti us all the time
Pakistan needs to behave like any other civilized society. We don’t have other states that have jehadi factories and supported by their army and encouraged and funded by them. Clearly, the army knows they can’t fight a real war and that is why they use proxies to advance (actually not advance the country’s interests). Can someone name a country that does what Pakistan does?
Pakistan cannot win a war with India. Haqqani is the only sane person on the web that is a Pakistani and calling it out the right way. Pakistan has to change, if not, other will change it. Why is that they don’t have good relations with any of their neighbors except China? You can’t live when you neighbors have problems with you. You have to address them because they will not be helpful in the long term.
Totally wrong assesment. AT the moment IK is struggling to make goverment. If generals were behind IK, then IK and PTI would have makes assusre that IK got 2/3 majority, but that is not the case.
By the way almost all pakistani loves Imran Khan, nobody want to give the religious fundamentalist political parties as PML-n, JUI, ANP and others their vote.
As always this upstart pseudo intellection deviant complexed being has let loose his utter frustration of being an non existent and irrelevant in Pakistani politics and society. This can only have a common Pakistani’s sympathies and certainly no other relevance. He better serves staying out of Pakistan, keeps his treacherous mind and dubious parentage far from our motherland, Pakistan. A mercenary for highest bidder !
There is a glow and a gloss to each new administration; it is entitled to a honeymoon period. Many Pakistanis – no less than the rest of the world – might feel the electoral outcome does not honestly reflect the popular will, but today there is no force that can overrule the generals. PM Nawaz Sharif was gracious enough to attend our Prime Minister’s swearing in ceremony. Protocol permitting, perhaps our Vice President could grace PM Imran Khan’s inauguration. It would also be a good gesture for PM to attend the SAARC summit in Islamabad later this year. No talks with Pakistan and seeking to isolate it globally have not proved to be a success. 2. For a long time, it may have suited China to use a dysfunctional Pakistan to needle India, open up a second front. China today is almost in America’s league. It can sit across the table with India, alone, and further its interests. Pakistan’s precarious financial and economic situation are not a happy augury for the success of the CPEC. Early days, and it is already struggling to service its debt to China. 3. A better outcome for the subcontinent would be for India, China and Pakistan to sit together and forge a more harmonious template for both peaceful coexistence and economic cooperation. What misplaced priorities, largely of the military, have done to keep Pakistan back is not something that pains the columnist alone. It has hurt India a great deal as well. It is in India’s interest to work for a better functioning SAARC. We have a huge development backlog as well.
