The Supreme Court overstepped its jurisdiction by barring a sitting Allahabad HC judge from hearing criminal cases. It usurped the power of the Chief Justice, master of the roster. HCs aren’t subordinate to SC. A perverse or erroneous order can be rectified. However, ‘overlordism’ can discredit the entire judicial machinery.

  1. The United States remaining the centrepiece of Indian foreign policy. For both economic and strategic reasons. Leaving space for a very old friendship with Russia. Also for a prudent, pragmatic reset with China. The recent past has been an unsettling time for our foreign policy.
