Death of Iran’s hardline President Ebrahim Raisi, front runner to replace an aging Ali Khamenei as Supreme Leader, won’t bring about any policy change on Israel or US. In fact, his death is likely to make any resolution harder because a new President will find it difficult to appear conciliatory.

Prolonged 7-phase elections make little sense. Only work for BJP

Monday’s polling in 49 constituencies stretched over eight states and UTs underlines irrational wastefulness of seven-phase elections. Of course, it works for BJP, as PM Modi can campaign in maximum constituencies. Such prolonged polls make little sense otherwise. The two-and-a-half-month-long model code of conduct also defeats logic behind one-nation-one-election push.
