Ahead of Mark Carney’s visit to India, Canada is revoking citizenship of Mumbai attack accused Tahawwur Rana. It’s also withholding court filings in Nijjar murder in a closed envelope. These are acts of good faith that undo the damage of Trudeau-era woolly-headedness. It is much-needed, Trump-induced realism in global diplomacy.

Politicians lack critical thinking; banning meat sales near schools is laughable

Bihar Dy CM Vijay Sinha’s reason for restricting meat sales outside schools is laughable. Meat-eating doesn’t make children violent. Family upbringing, popular culture are the problem. Politicians need to learn critical thinking about social behaviour, not peddle obscurantism. Focus on the gaps in school education, not what kids are eating.

Lutyens was no Macauley. Denying history isn’t cultural revivalism

Replacing Lutyens’ bust with Rajaji’s isn’t a decolonisation project. Architect Lutyens was no Macaulay. He built much of central Delhi, including Rashtrapati Bhavan and India Gate. Rajaji deserves a place, but not by dismantling Lutyens. There should be room for both in our national iconography. Denying history isn’t cultural revivalism.
